This Charlotte community is in a great part of South Charlotte with a variety of housing near and on the course. Upscale condo's, Town homes and Estate homes are located here for the young professional, the growing family or the retiring doctor. Opened in 1988, the TPC at Piper Glen was designed by Arnold Palmer, and presents a challenging par-72 championship layout, replete with mounds and knolls, wide fairways and multi-tiered greens. The 6,883-yard layout, which was home to the SENIOR PGA TOUR's Home Depot Invitational from 1990-2001, winds through rolling terrain, natural rock outcroppings, stately oak trees and gentle lake inlets, as well as streams and ponds. Palmer designed it to challenge the best players in the world while still accommodating players of all skill levels. In addition to a first-rate layout, the TPC at Piper Glen is complemented by a collection of other recreational amenities, including a 10-acre practice facility, eight lighted clay tennis courts, and a junior-Olympic-sized swimming pool. The brick clubhouse, with its southern traditional architecture, is a welcoming structure spread over 35,000 square feet. Its facade is decorated with large columns. The neighborhood speaks for itself and is well established. There are still a few opportunities for new housing. The community is located in south Charlotte and is minutes from highway 485 with easy access to South Park and Downtown. The championship 18-hole Dan Maples golf course is both captivating as well as challenging. PGA Professionals are on staff to help make your golf experience at PCC the best and most enjoyable it can be. Whether its equipment needs or fashion desires, a fully stocked Pro Shop is available to all PCC Members. A complete and extensive practice facility can help you work out those kinks or get you warmed up for your upcoming tee time. Home Prices-390's to $600's Carmel Country Club has two Championship Courses that are fantastic. Carmel is deep inside the established area of Charlotte. We have plenty of great resale homes on and around the course with some opportunity for new homes. Great access to Downtown and South Park. Carmel Country Club is recognized as one of the finest golfing and country club facilities in the nation. It was founded in 1947, and the first nine holes were opened to play in 1950. The Club, originally on 160 acres off Carmel Road has grown to 384 acres. A major renovation to facilities and landscaping was completed in 1998. It now has two 18-hole courses, eleven tennis courts, golf and tennis pro shops, an Olympic size swimming pool, a teen/swim facility, fitness center with aerobics room, a golf learning center and a large, luxurious Clubhouse. Carmel's staff includes about 210 persons working in ten departments. Myers Park is one of the oldest and prestigious clubs in the city. The housing in the area is older with buyers renovating existing homes. A must see to experience the beauty of the neighborhoods. The streets are tree lined with huge hardwoods. The housing is minutes form downtown and has easy access to South Park. It may be difficult getting a membership to the Club! Myers Park is a wonderful site. Rolling hill, gentle elevation changes and great topographical variety. Bobby Weed made great use of the land. - The fairway bunkering that was rebuilt and in some cases added is quite authentic. The placement of a couple of cross-bunkers on the backside is fabulous. - The greens were expanded which created many more pinning positions. In an effort to accommodate more play some of the greens probably grew larger than those originally laid out by Ross. A couple of shorter par five holes and at least one par four have greens much larger than Ross would normally have designed. The greens are interesting and challenging and like the original course they are close to the next tee. - The course has a wonderful flow and a theme that is quite Ross reminiscent, which continues from the first tee to the 18th green. - The green surfaces are exceptional for greens only a year old. - The overall experience of Myers Park is very pleasant, very old style, very Donald Ross. One of Tiger's warm ups for the Open. The tourney is in our third year and it looks like a long term stop. The players are raving about it. It may be hard getting a membership but it is worth the try. Some new houses but mainly older estates that in a well established part of town. Minutes form South Park and easy access to downtown. Let's go shopping! The course went through a major design change by Tom Fazio from 1997 and again in 2003 in preparation to host the Wachovia Championship. This was a great golf course in the 'old days' and the revamping by Fazio has brought it back to be as competitive as ever for today's modern equipment and play You can see how the holes at Quail Hollow vary in direction. This is the making of some great early George Cobb design (Cobb's best work being hilly golf course's with North Carolina his main canvas) This variation brings the natural elements of wind and weather into play requiring the ability to play all the shots. The original design used the lake and creeks running throughout the golf course making them in play on a lot of the shot values. And the redesign has used those same features of hills, water, and change of direction as well, to revamp this old beauty to fit 2004 era PGA Tour play! The course is always in great shape and the membership fee is always in a reasonable range for a private club. There are some older houses directly located on the course. There a number of nice subdivisions across the street from the club house. The original Pine Lake Country Club course was built in the early 1960's and underwent an extensive renovation in 1988 by renowned golf course architect John LaFoy. LaFoy has a reputation as a devotee of the legendary Donald Ross and today's Pine Lake is certainly reminiscent of Ross's work. The club occupies 155 acres with five fresh water lakes and manicured grounds with Azaleas and Bradford Pears. Due to the nature of the design, Pine Lake's course is very "walkable" and provides golfers of all skill levels an enjoyable challenge and a welcomed respite from the hectic pace of today's world. The homes on the course are older but reasonably priced. Southeast housing is on and around the course. This unique community has everything form condos to single family homes. A must see for avid golfers looking for a great course and are focused on budget. Raintree Country Club's two golf courses are very distinctive in themselves. The South Course is especially desired by avid players because of its length and amount of water that comes into play. The North Course, on the other hand, draws golfers because of its scenic design. This Course encompasses various ponds and has a rolling terrain, which entices players of all levels. Both courses have undergone major renovation. The South Course greens, along with many tee boxes, greenside bunkers were rebuilt in 1994 followed by the North Course receiving the same renovations, in the year 2000. Raintree not only has two of the most enjoyable golf courses in Charlotte, but also features a wide range of other golfing amenities; driving range, chipping and putting greens and a fully stocked Pro Shop with golf fashions and equipment. If you need help with your game, their full-time teaching Professional and PGA trained staff members provide clinics, golf schools and individual lessons for juniors, ladies, men and seniors.
